Is having termites in your house like living an unhealthy lifestyle to your body?
Termites can eat away at your house’s foundation without you knowing until one day, the damage is too far gone and you need to tear down everything and start from scratch. If you had known about your termite problem 2 years ago, would you have taken care of it then? With minimal damage and a much cheaper price tag? Not to mention less inconvenience on your daily life and operations by having to stop everything and tear your house apart?
Well, now picture the foundation of your house as your body. Imagine if you don’t exercise, you don’t walk more than 15-20 minutes total in a day, reaching 5,000 steps in a day is a challenge for your body, you drink 1-2 alcoholic beverages a day and more on weekends, your diet is loaded with take-away foods, sugars, bad fats, processed foods, and you used to smoke a pack a day.
If you were a house, what would your foundation look like ?
I hope I’ve got you thinking.
Is what you are doing today slowly damaging your body and accelerating your loss of quality of life? Or are you doing everything you can to protect and nurture your body? I thought of this termite analogy when one of my client’s was telling me that they think they have termites destroying their deck. We talked about how it’s best to get it sorted early on before it turns into a bigger problem. There’s an upfront cost to deal with it upfront; however, it will save them a lot of time and money compared to waiting until the problem is bigger. I thought, wow, this is a lot like what I do for a living. I’m helping people prevent their issues from becoming much bigger and potentially disastrous later on down the track. If you knew you had a little shoulder niggle, some pain during movement, and there’s a little voice telling you something just isn’t quite right … would you prefer to have it checked out, foot the bill for some professional assistance, and get on your merry way? Or would you put it off, avoid movements that hurt, keep ignoring it, and then WHAM! One day, while putting your shoes on, you tear a rotator cuff muscle and need surgery. Your family needs to take time off of work to help care for you during your surgery days and recovery, help you get dressed, showered, and take you to appointments to and from the surgeon and specialists ? You could be in and out of rehab sessions for months on end.
Which scenario sounds more appealing ?
Think of the financial burden as well. So many people put off getting help for little aches and pains (that DON’T go away with rest, and that have been bothering them for months or even years!) simply due to the inconvenience and the financial costs. Well, let’s say you get injured and are scheduled for surgery. What would you pay to NOT have these issues ? How are those $70 physio appointments looking now ? Bet you wish you got ahead of your problems instead of putting them aside and dealing with the bigger issue now, eh?!
I am so passionate about ensuring people don’t ignore signs and symptoms, and to be proactive with their bodies. Yes, sometimes this takes time and money … but what COULD it cost you in the future if you don’t deal with the issue now ?
What would you pay or give to be 15kg lighter ? Or to have pain-free shoulder movement ? Or to prevent knee surgery ?
Better Posture. better Life.
